Hi everyone, I’m Laura, founder of Carbon Lab.
Carbon Lab was born from my deep desire to drive change in the building industry. With a background in architecture, I’ve worked across diverse typologies and locations, collaborating with incredibly talented architects for over 10 years in global firms such as Grimshaw Architects, where I spent over seven years honing my expertise in design, documentation and project delivery.
My specialisation in environmental design and life cycle assessment certification led me to pivot in 2021, turning my passion into action. I then worked as an environmental consultant and designer with firms such as Finding Infinity in Melbourne and Atelier Ten, where I collaborated closely with Paul Stoller in both Melbourne and Sydney. At Atelier Ten, I gained invaluable experience in environmental consulting, contributing to:
✅ Sustainability frameworks for universities like Southern Cross University
✅ Circular economy strategies for higher education institutions
✅ Green Star accreditation pathways for buildings
✅ Carbon Hot Spot Analysis and LCAS
✅ Supporting commercial clients like Atlassian in their carbon reduction targets
Why Start Carbon Lab?
I saw a gap in the industry—environmental consulting in Australia is often limited to large commercial projects with big budgets. Smaller practices, working on residential or boutique-scale projects, lacked access to sustainability expertise. I wanted to change that.
What Makes Carbon Lab Different?
As an environmental consultant with an architectural background, I bring a unique design-first approach:
🛠️ I speak your language—both design and software, including Revit📊 I model and test alternative design scenarios for carbon impact🌱 I use specialized carbon emissions calculators & software to quantify results🔎 I research low-carbon materials and am building a vetted database of sustainable products
I am interested in innovation and collaboration that’s why I also collaborate with other specialists in the industry which include Passive House design, parametric environmental analysis, and thermal & solar performance modeling (including Section J compliance). Together as a team, we can deliver comprehensive sustainable design solutions for projects of all scales with a very personalised touch.
Affordable, Impactful Sustainability
My fees are more accessible than larger environmental consultancies because I operate with low overheads. I’m passionate about working with architects of all scales, from boutique firms to larger studios, to integrate sustainability seamlessly into design.
